The Caversham Butcher.
Branding / Web design and development / E-commerce
The brief.
We were asked to create a new identity and eCommerce website for a long established butchers based in Caversham, Reading.
The award-winning shop has been the cornerstone of the local community for the past 100 years, priding themselves on the excellent reputation they have built. Committed to delivering the best level of service, craftsmanship and quality to their customers.
They are a pleasure to deal with, always offering advice and support. Our website looks superb. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

The design process
What started as a logo refresh progressed into a complete re-branding project as the owners wanted to change the name.
The use of a stylised bull was suggested by the clients, so we started by creating a variety of illustrations we could use and incorporate into the logo design. First draft logos were presented and we took the favoured versions and progressed further. We chose to use a rich navy blue and gold colour palette, giving a nod back to the traditional blue butchers uniforms which had been used in the shop over the years.

Once the logo design was finalised we created brand guidelines, helping the clients to build the identity of the brand and create brand consistency throughout the store and on social media.
New signage was created for the shop windows and signs which really brought the shop up to date, alongside the in-store refurbishment.
Website design and development
Full design and development of an eCommerce website, with over 90 products was created using WordPress. We had to create delivery settings and weight options for each product and a login area for customers. Once the website was up and running we went back to the shop and gave the staff some WordPress training, enabling them to process the online orders, send out email newsletters and add/update products.

The results
The Caversham Butcher’s e-commerce website went live at the start of November 2019, on track to be settled in ready for the Christmas rush. The client saw an immediate benefit to our work, having a fantastic response with customers ordering online over the Christmas period. Their new sign written vans have been working hard, not only delivering to all the customers in the local area but also providing further brand awareness, this, alongside a strong and growing social media presence has seen them grow from strength to strength.
Having this online store has given them a competitive advantage and also allowed them to provide an invaluable service to the local community during the most difficult time we have experienced in modern times – the Covid19 pandemic.
Traffic to the website rose dramatically at the start of the pandemic and has continued to grow, without the website they would have been unable to supply to so many people. The online store had to close most weekends due to such a high demand with all the delivery slots being taken.
The development of an eCommerce website has transformed their business, and the ROI percentage from the first 6 months is an outstanding 1200%.
